Like I said, cracked head or bad cup will typically show some evidence in radiator, carbon particles building up on radiator cap or floating on top of coolant in radiator. True, when engine is shut off, some coolant from crack/bad injector cup will leak into piston chamber and can possibly leak into crankcase, but that's hard to prove.

But coolant leaking through crack in head or failed injector cup typically gets burned in combustion, leads to white smoking exhaust. Going on vague recollections, when you typically have a cracked head, you're going to see combustion residue in radiator, it will even pressurize cooling system.
#Detroit diesel series 60 coolant in oil serial
The bottom line series is the serial number.Īs for your particular problem, water in oil, I assume you're saying you're seeing coolant in the oil in oil pan. The top line numbers are the model number and model specs. That flat spot should have two number series, a top line series and bottom line series. Sorry, I don't have a good pic malcolm, but there should be a flat spot, either toward front or rear of block, just below the deck of block where head sits on block. If this is not the problem, the local dealer feels the only other problem would be a corroded piston sleeve/liner or seal between liner and block.Īny one out there with any other theories or suggestions? I have removed the cooler and will get it tested tomorrow or Monday. I saw some threads that talked about leaking oil coolers. After draining oil, I then drained coolant, no trace of oil.

First fluid out was green coolant (2 to 3 litres). Next day checked oil and coolant- oil was full with white slime on dipstick and coolant was not visible in rad. Last week worked engine for 4 hours (idling while loading and then short run to drop load). It was at full mark (normally would be below the add mark) and white slime on dipstick. Two weeks ago when servicing I checked oil. That is when I noticed the split in the lower rad hose. Three weeks ago, the temperature guage went to maximum. Besides oil leaks and wet stacking when idling the engine ran strong. I have a Terex scraper S7 (1976) with a 471 Detroit in it that is used sporatically to haul clay or dirt.
